TfS services stop and start unexpectedly RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have TFS 2008 with SP1 on Windows2008. We have never had problems with checkin or checkout, but since we start to use TFS Build service we notice that some of services stop and start without any obvious reason.

    Here what we are getting

Team Foundation Core Web Service Application shut down. The application is being shutdown for the following reason: HostingEnvironment

TF10182: The Team Foundation source control server TfsVersionControl stopped at 4/15/2010 11:50:57 PM. The application is being shutdown for the following reason: HostingEnvironment

The Team Foundation Build server stopped at 4/15/2010 11:50:57 PM. The application is being shutdown for the following reason: HostingEnvironment

Work Item Tracking Web service stopped. The application is being shutdown for the following reason: HostingEnvironment

Then, near to morning services start somehow

Team Foundation Core Web Service Application started.

TF10181: The Team Foundation source control server TfsVersionControl started at 4/16/2010 8:23:30 AM

TF200029: Team Foundation Server completed group synchronization. All group and user information is up to date.

Work Item Tracking Web service application started.

The Team Foundation Build server started at 4/16/2010 8:59:59 AM

TF200028: Team Foundation Server started group synchronization. Group synchronization started with the Team Foundation Valid Users group.

TF200029: Team Foundation Server completed group synchronization. All group and user information is up to date.

  • Hi,

We found out that services stop exactly once in a 29 hour and start as someone tries to connect to tfs for example opening team explorer from visual studio. We also found out that there is a configuration at application pool which recycles working processes and it is set to 1740 minutes = 29 hours. I cannot imagine that application pool's recycling can stop tfs build service and other services too. So, I am wondering can this be a reason?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Gayane,

if you recycle application pool the services will stop because its interrelated with IIS.
