Database Hosting RRS feed

  • Question

I'm developing an application that I need to run on several pc's and pull data from one centralized server.  My problem is-- All the web hosting services I'v found seem to block remote access to their databases for security reasons.

So how would I go about accomplishing this.. Am I just looking at the wrong providers?  Are there providers that do allow remote connections.  Or do I need to setup a webserver on my homepc, get a static ip and just use my machine to serve the database?  (I'd rather not do this).

How are other people accomplishing this task?

  • Hi,

The way I do it is to create a web service on the host that exposes the data of the database. This would be a simple service that exposes CRUD operations and additional business logic like validation if needed.
