Sequence to install RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I am a fairly new at woring on PC's and fixing problems.
My issue right now is, after a long ordeal, getting to a point of re-installing Windows. I've got Windows XP Pro with SP2 installed.
Now - Is there list somewhere that describes the sequence of service packs and Security updates for the Windows Inviroment.
I am inparticular about the .NET Framework right now, but the rest of the softwork will also need to be brought up current revisions.
I really would appreciate any help.

  • Unless you are a developer who needs to target particular Framework versions (that were not installed with Visual Studio) in your applications, you probably don't need to install any .NET Frameworks. Why? Because the Windows programs that need .NET will automatically install needed frameworks as part of the installation process as needed.

If you feel you must install a framework, I suggest you install 2.0/3.0/3.5 (all ONE framework, 3.0 and 3.5 are extensions of 2.0), using this cumulative update that will automatically install service packs through 3.5 SP1 as part of the single install process:
