Looking for service/web site to store statistical data. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,
I’m developing .net windows azure application and looking for service/web site where I can store statistics. A service should provide nice UI and graphs for statistical data. A service/web site should have api and .net sdk to provide ability to push data to a service for .net application. Can anybody suggest such kind of services?

    Thanks in advance.

  • I am not clear what is your “statistic data”. If you need to store data, you can use storage capabilities of Windows Azure such as Blobs, Tables and Queues. Here are a few examples that exploring Windows Azure Storage, includes how to create storage accounts; upload and retrieve blobs and blob metadata; create, update and query tables; and create a simple service that uses a message queue for communication.  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/WAZPlatformTrainingCourse_ExploringWindowsAzureStorageVS2010

If you want to see “statistic data” of your web site on Azure, Windows Azure web site already provides some monitoring and statistics tools. Please refer to http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/manage/services/web-sites/how-to-monitor-websites/ for more information. You can also consider Bing Webmaster (http://www.bing.com/toolbox/webmaster) or some third party services such as Google's.

If them are not what you need, can you tell me clearly what is the “statistic data”? Thanks,

  • I also have a similar use case that may or may not be the same as the OP.  I have a desktop application that generates media content provided by a user.  The content will be stored in an Azure storage account.  I will also create a website that queries this content to display in a browser.  Throughout this process, I will like to keep track of a number of statistical information.  Stuff like how many user used the application, what kind of options did the user make, how many users visited the website and so on and so on.  It will be nice to be able to use an existing service that can host this data and display them with graphs, timelines and other useful things for conveying statistical information.

Basically, I am looking for the statistical data support for Azure Web Sites but for custom data.  Is anything like this available?

  • Hi ShadyCoder,

I haven't found anything specific to Azure, but you could have a look at Librato Metrics https://metrics.librato.com/. It allows to post your statistics data via web service methods(.Net sdk is provided) and displays it with graphs and timelines.

  • Hi Kirill,

Thanks for the link.  This service looks pretty interesting.  Have you tried their service?  I didn't see any mention of adding relationships between different metrics and counters.  Something like "the amount of users that did A also did B".  With this amount of complexity, I am thinking of just using a real database web serivce and run SQL queries and adding graphs programmatically on a site.  This will add quite a bit of effort though just for stat tracking.
