dropdown with jquery

I had populated dropdown using jquery as shown in:

The issue is that I had concatenated two values ie text that needs to be displayed and one value which I need for calculation, separated by piping symbol eg US | 03. But for display purpose I need to display before piping ie only US as text value. How can that be done?

A dropdown (select input) has a value and text.  The text is shown on the page while the value is used by the system; usually an Id.   Set the value to US | 03 and the text to US.

According to your description,I couldn't understand your requirement clearly. How you get the two values and what's the logic about calculation. So I hope that you could share your code and give me more details about what you want to do.
