MOSS 2007 Database Fragmentation RRS feed

  • Question

  • On our SQL Server 2008 database server, we have a Maintenance Plan to
rebuild indexes across several user-defined databases. We do this
because indexes become fragmented over time and performance suffers. I
refrained from adding the application databases (MOSS's 2007 databases included) to the list of databases to rebuild their indexes because I did not know what that would do to the application itself. Probably
nothing, but I was not sure.

Examining some of the Sharepoint databases for fragmented indexes, I
found that some of the indexes were close to 100% fragmented which is
not a good sign. Would it be alright to rebuild these indexes on a
regular basis using the Maintenance Plan (perhaps once per week) and if
so, is there any special criteria in doing so? e.g. fill factor percentage?  Our install of MOSS is about two years old now.
