wince 7 os image building RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
I install add-on windows ce 7.0 for visual studio 2008.
I build OS design for ARMV7.

    I configure a device :
    1-Donwload : Device Emulator (DMA)
    2-Transport : Device Emulator (DMA)

When I attach device, it returns to me :

    Error:Invalid or missing ROM image

    Please can you help me?

  • if you want to create your own OS and you do not have an actual device you can build an OS based on the VirtualPC BSP. Please read the document %PROGRAMFILES%\Windows Embedded Compact 7\Documentation\Getting_Started_With_Virtual_CEPC.pdf. It's all there

  • In Windows Embedded Compact you have no more the ARM emulator, you have a BSP for Virtual PC.

See the PDF document in %PROGRAMFILES%\Windows Embedded Compact 7\Documentation folder to see how to use it

  • instead of emulator should i use virtual pc?

    Is it like an emulator?

  • Virtual PC emulates a PC (x86) you cannot download an OS image for an ARM device. In CE 7 the ARM emulator is no longer present

  • then how can i run my os image for arm without any emulator or device as you said virtual pc supports only x86?

How do i Emulate an os image for armv7?

  • since there's no ARM7 emulator you need an actual device

  • Thank you for reply.

But i have a doubt..there is option DevEmu(auto) in target-> connectivity options and after connecting its giving this error:missing or invalid rom image.

So does wince7 has device emulator ?

If it has then  which architecture does this emulator support as you said it has no arm or x86 emulator?

  • I think the emulator option in target connectivity is a vestige of the older CE version. As I said there's no such ARM emulator anymore in CE 7 (By the way the CE 6.0 emulator was for ARMV4I not ARM7)

  • Can I install microsoft device emulator 3.0 to emulate os image for arm architecture as there is no emulator for arm architecture in wince 7?

  • The device emulator emulates an ARM (but not an ARM7) device and it runs a predefined OS image: you can download and debug apps onto it, you cannot download an OS image. It's not suitable for what you want to do
