Compact 2013: Virtual Memory Usage Much Higher Than CE6 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We ported our device previously running CE6 to Windows Embedded Compact 2013. One thing of note is that the Virtual Memory usage by almost all applications is 2-4 times higher than CE6. For example, virtual memory used by Cmd.exe on our release CE6 image is 307200 bytes, while on our release WEC2013 image it's 1011712 bytes. Or a small one button MFC application that simply resets our device takes 262144 bytes on CE6 and 1003520 bytes in WEC2013. I've verified the code in this simple application is identical for both OS's. Is this difference expected? Why do applications compiled with the WEC2013 SDK require so much more memory?

I don't think there's much I can do about this, but I thought I'd ask.
