Hi All,
I got some word documents stored in a document library. I was wondering is there a way when the user click on the word document and it will display in the web browser instead of opening up microsoft words.
Thanks

Hi
You can install Office Web Apps on your SharePoint 2010 server.

In windows xp there was an option for common file types like office and pdf to "browse in same window". I hear in windows 7 / 2008 it was removed from the OS UI, and you need to modify the registry.
this is client by client, you'd need a AD group policy to change it for everyone for everything.

He wants to let users just "display in the web browser", not edit.SharePointDummie, do you have SharePoint Server or just SharePoint Foundation?

With office WebApps and the right permissions you can only display a document and not edit.
If you klick on a Document it will be opend in the office WebApps read mode. (see printscreen: http://img707.imageshack.us/i/readonly.png/ )
If you klick on the "Edit in Browser" Button, it will be open in Edit mode. (see Printscreen: http://img210.imageshack.us/i/edite.png/ )

While I don't know if its as easy as clicking on the document in the library and it opens as HTML, the MOSS 2007 has a Document Conversion service that converts Office docs into HTMLFriday, June 18, 2010 7:51 PM
