How to add reference to COM project in C# project? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to add a COM project reference to a C# project and I get the following error dialog:

A reference to 'COMProject' could not be added.

If I add a file reference to COM project's output dll, I do not get any error messages and the COMProjectLib reference successfully appears the C# project's References folder. The problem with adding a file reference is:

    1) There is not a dependency between the C# project and its referenced COM project.
    2) I have to choose between the COM project's debug and release dll, rather than using the debug dll in debug mode and the release dll in release mode.

Has anyone run into this problem before? How can I fix this?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't think you can change that.  However, you don't have to choose between the debug and release, whichever one is currently registered, is the one that will run, no matter which one you first referenced.
