DNS authoratative vs non-authoratative AND system.dns RRS feed

  • Question

  • Bit of a DNS noob here trying to work with/around internal company DNS issues.

If I do an nslookup on our internal DNS I get some unauthoratative responses.
I think this means that the DNS server I am getting an answer from is not the same one that is originally registering the IP.  Somestimes the information is wrong.

I have been using the system.net.dns 4.0 library but only one method out of it gethostbyaddress():

    1) How do I tell if the response is a non-authorative one (like with nsLookup)?

    2) How do I find out the authoritative server?

    3) How do I target that authoritative server?

I am a little puzzled here and the only google post that sort of game me an answer was from 2007 and it said .net cannot do this.

    Help?

    thanks.  Country Style
