Can you add RAM and the paging file megabytes together? RRS feed

  • Hello Community

For evaluation purposes when you install Sharepoint 2013 Server
on a single server you need 24GB of RAM.

In a case where you only have 16GB of physical RAM and 18GB of
Virtual Ram if you set the paging file to have 8GB of RAM would that
qualify as the 24GB of RAM needed for evaluation purpose
(That is my version of how to overbook RAM but how do you actually
overbook the Ram if you can only have 16GB of physical RAM and 18GB of
virtual RAM to equal the 24GB of RAM needed for evaluation purposes)?

        Thank you

  • Don't try to force things to use virtual memory, it's worse than not having it at all. Don't muck about with the paging file either as that can cause issues.

16GB is sufficient for evaluation as long as you're not trying to do load tests and your user count is low.
