Turn on Project Web App Settings RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Bit background on what type of setup I am working with.  I had upgraded Project Server 2010 to Project Server 2013 with migration of SharePoint 2010 to 2013.  After the upgrade, I have the base PWA site (which was needed to upgrade) in a different site collection and migrated PWA site (top level site in new site collection) in a separate site collection.  Now I have two separate PWA instances provisioned in CA though Project Center is in the migrated site collection.

Without further confusing the scenario, let me ask the question.  I am trying to install a Quick Status App developed using the following link:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/jj873844(v=office.15).aspx

But when I try to add the app in the migrated site collection, the app is disabled and clicking on "Find out why" displays the message "Turn on Project Web App Settings".  If I go and try to add the app in the base PWA site, it is available.  What settings do I need to change to enable this in the PWA of the migrated site collection?  Your help is always appreciated.

    Thanks,

    kashif

  • Hello,

There is a Site Collection Feature called "Project Web App Settings", is this enabled on the PWA site collection?

  • Hi Paul,

Thank you for your reply.  You are absolutely right.  That feature is not activated however when I try to activate it, it gives me an error.  ULS has warning and errors logged:

warning: Failed to grant 'dc\user1' access to web application

(dc\user1 is app pool user in IIS for the web application and included in Farm Administrator group, also under User Policy for the application it has Full Read and Full Control permissions set)

Unexpected:  Failed to get [Admin] access level connection string because current user is not an administrator on the farm

(not sure why is this since the user is part of the Farm Administrator group in CA)

Unexpected:  Only Administrator users can obtain the connection string for [Admin] access level

Once again, I am lost here.  Any ideas what access should be granted?  Do I need to grant permissions to content db using PowerShell (SPWebApplication.GrantAccessToProcessIdentity)?  Thanks for your help.

    Regards,

  • Hello,

Try that PowerShell command then retest although that account should already have access to the content DB.

  • Hi Paul,

No matter what I do, I am unable to activate the feature.  I tried modifying the user policy, tried running powershell commands, tried provisioning the site again, tried changing pool for service application, tried removing and adding user back to farm administrator, tried modifying the workflow proxy user (just shooting in the dark) but still getting same error as outlined in my previous post.  Just thinking out loud, if this feature is not enabled, then how can I still access all of PWA webparts/settings/project center etc?  Any suggestions?  Thanks for your help.

    Regards,

  • Have you tried via PowerShell? Enable-SPFeature pwasite -URL <site url> like in the article below:P

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj200305(v=office.15).aspx#EnableTheProjectWebAppSiteCollectionFeatures
