  • Question

  • Ok I have downloaded SQL Server 2008 Express Edition With Advanced Features.

I have configured Reporting Services. However, how do you develop reports when Business Intelligence Development Studio doesn't ship with any of the Express Editions?

  • Hi FogHorn I,

By default, we use Report Designer or Report Builder to author a report. Report Designer is a report design tool that is installed with Business Intelligence Development Studio when you install Reporting Services. In this environment, Report Designer runs inside Visual Studio.

In order to use Business Intelligence Development Studio to create reports, we need to follow these steps generally:
        1. Create a report project.
        2. Create reports in the project.

Anyway, if I have misunderstood your question, could you please elaborate a bit more about "when Business Intelligence Development Studio doesn't ship with any of the Express Editions".

  • Hi Jin,

Thanks for the reply. This Question was supposed to be for SSIS not RS.

I'm able to create reports but not SSIS Packages with SQL Server 2008 Express and Visual Studio 2008 Express. When you to create a SSIS package with the express edition, it gives an error that says "you must upgrade to a licensed edition"

    Thanks.
