Application uninstall leaving behind installation log files RRS feed

  • Question

  • We use a custom installer for installing sub-components those are required to run our application. The (custom) installer also create log files in TargetDir at the time of installation & uninstallation.

At the time of uninstall, all sub-components get uninstalled cleanly but the TargetDir still remain with the log files created by the installer. Is it a valid scenario to pass Win 2K8 R2 certification test or should the installer create these log files in temp or user-data folder?

  • Hi AnjumatIRIS

In most cases 3rd -party installers create installation log files and store them in the temp folder. But in your scenario the installation logs remain undeleted! So which 3rd party installer are you using?

You can also visit the manufacturer's webiste for more details.

  • Actually we have created our own (custom) installer. As per your feedback we have changed our installer application to create log files in %temp% folder and now every folder/file gets cleanly uninstalled/removed. I hope it should suffice the requirement for Win 2K8 R2 certification!
