row locking legacy encryption RRS feed

  • Question

  • Using MSAccess 2016, I added password protection.    It warned me that this turns off row locking.     My databases are multiuser and, doing research, I found that I should use legacy encryption if I want to continue using row lock.   The instructions don't tell me how to use the legacy encryption.   I do not see an option for this.    Could someone tell me how to do this or if there is a way to utilize row lock and encryption?

  • Hi,

The new encryption scheme does use page locking, so row-level locking is not possible. I don't know if it's possible to use the legacy encryption in newer versions of Access. However, there are a lot of multi-user databases using the new encryption scheme without any issues with row-level locking. Is there a specific problem you are experiencing? If you must go back to using the legacy encryption scheme, it may be necessary for you to roll back your application to an older version of Access.

    Just my 2 cents...
