Upgraded sql server from 2008 to 2012 , should update the sqlncli ?

  • Hello in advance,

i just updated my production server from sql server 2008 to 2012, migrating the database to another server.

however i did not updated the Sql native client to 11.  all applications are working fine and no problems.

but the question arises if the new SQL native client is faster or by any stability issue it should be updated on the client machies wich are running the applications that connect to the database.

I tried to make som research around the internet and forum by this subject but i could find anything.

And is there any chart with the diferences betwwen the 2 clients ?

Thank you in advance by your attention.

  • Hello Ricardo,

The SQL client is back and particular forward compatible, means you can use older clients to connect newer SQL Server versions. Only new features are not supported by older client, but beside this the clients will work well and there won't be any performance differences; the clients just send the statements to SQL Server and receive the response.
