Launching an uninstaller when installing a Windows Store app RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a classic C++ non-UWP app built with Visual Studio.

We use a NSIS an installer and un-installer.

We've converted our app with the Desktop Converter App.

And we managed to publish it on the Store.

However we have a lot of customers who use the classic non-UWP app.

We'll tell them to switch to the Windows Store app from now on.

    The question:

Is it possible to un-install the classic app when the Windows Store app is being installed?

The classic app has an un-installer whose path is recorded in the registry key.

Is it possible to launch it from the Windows Store app?

Ideally we'd like to avoid a manual un-install on the customers side.

  • Hi Adel Keita,

    >Is it possible to launch the un-installer of application A when the user downloads application B from the Store?

Yes, it is possible, installing an app from a store does not affect uninstalling another app locally normally.

Under normal circumstances, app installation in the Store will not be affected by the un-installation of other apps.

    >Is it possible to launch it from the Windows Store app?

Yes,when you install the app, you could click the 'Launch' button in the app page to or click the local app logo to launch the app.

This is not possible if you don't want customers to uninstall your app (which is installed from Store) locally.

  • Hi Daisy,

    Thank you for your response.

However, my question may not be clear enough.

Imagine we have an application A which does not come from the Store, and application B which comes from the Store.

Is it possible to launch the un-installer of application A when the user downloads application B from the Store?
