how to retrieve the windows liveid? RRS feed

  • Question

  •

Is there a way to retrieve the logged-in user's windows liveid (after the user is logged in to a HealthVault program)?

We would like to store this email address.

  • AFAIK, there is no way to get to the user's windows liveid. There may be an email address in the Contact instance, but I don't think there's a requirement to have one.

Why do you want to store the address?

  • If you need an email addresss and the user has not entered one for their record, you can ask for one in your application.

    1. You can add custom data using the custom data type. You can find an example of how to do this in the HealthAndFitness application, which is described here.
    2. To add other information, you can use a HealthRecordItemExtension class. Read this and this.

In either case, you should consider whether the user would want to view this data or whether it could be used by other applications. If so, you should make a request for us to add a new data type or modify an existing one to support your scenario.

  • Thanks for the prompt reply.

Normally we do not need email address as all existing users for our application are already registered.

If a new user (who is not originally registered with our app) logs in to our program for HealthVault, how can we contact this new user for any updates?

    I have more questions:

    1. How can we add custom data (specific to our program) to HealthVault?

    2. How can we add any additional information (other than the default properties) for an existing HealthRecord data type (ex: Appointment) ?

    Thanks.
