Decryption - Restrict access to sys admins RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Is there a way to restrict sys admins to view decrypted data from a column in a sql table. If so what will be the sql server encryption mechanism I need to set up. If any of you has set this up at your place or have encountered similar situations please let me know. Thanks!

The one can decrypt the crypttext if he can open the key , so the only way you can do is restric sysadmin to open the key:

You should create a symmetric key that protected by a passwod, and only deploy the password to users you trust.

and all the users can't decrypt without the password even he is the sysadmin
