"The app has limited functionality" for Beta app. RRS feed

  • Question

  • What does the statement, "The app has limited functionality", mean in the context of a beta/preview version of an app? My submission failed review with the following:

    ------------------------------------------------------------

    App Policies: 10.1 Inadequate Functionality

Your app and its associated metadata must accurately and clearly reflect the source, functionality, and features of your app.

    • All aspects of your app should accurately describe the functions, features and any important limitations of your app.
    • Your app may not use a name or icon similar to that of other apps.
    • Your app may not claim to be to be from a company, government body, or other entity if you do not have permission to make that representation.
    • Keywords may not exceed seven unique terms and should be relevant to your app.
    • Your app must be fully functional.

    Notes To Developer

The app has limited functionality. For more information see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=615230.

    -----------------------------------------------

The app is allready submitted and published to the store, this was just an update fixing bugs. I have set it to hidden in the Store. It can only be downloaded through direct link, and it's clearly stated that it is a Beta version and some functionality is not yet working or is missing. It even says "Beta" in the title of the app.

Am I not allowed to have beta apps in the store? Or does this statement "App has limited functionality" mean something else in this context?? Or do this "reviewer" not understand what beta means?

  • Hi Molvil,

Please note that beta testing app (like package flights or hidden in the Store ) must pass the certification process just as the same as a regular submission. Since there exists some functionality that is not working or missing in your app, it cannot pass the certification for violating the Windows Store Policy.
The purpose of beta testing is to help developers to discover the issues that you’ve overlooked so that you’ll have a chance to fix those problems before you release it to the public. While if there exist known issues or the declared functionality not working or missing in your app, it just cannot pass the Store certification.
Adhering to these policies should help you make choices that enhance your app’s appeal and audience. Thanks for your understanding.
So you might need to improve or make up the functionality and submit it again.  When you resubmit submission, you could try to add Notes for certification to let the tester know about your mind. A polite note and clear, helpful instruction would be appreciated.

    Best Regards!
