  • Hi Ahmad,

    Thank you for your post.

To run ASP.NET 2.0 of Visual Studio 2005, we need .NET Framework 2.0 to support it.
.NET Framework can only be installed on computers running a Microsoft Windows operating system.
    Please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.NET_Framework#.NET_vs._Java_and_Java_EE
Programs coded on .NET framework don't work on Linux.

However, the third-party Mono Project has been developing an open source implementation of the ECMA standards that are part of .NET Framework, as well as most of the other non-ECMA standardized libraries in Microsoft's .NET. The Mono implementation is meant to run on Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X, BSD, HP-UX, and Windows platforms.
Thus, for your question, it's true.
For more information on Mono, please see: http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page

Hope this helps. If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know.

    Best regards,
    Yichun Chen
