Where does Office Add-in (Excel in this case) store cookies? I can't find them in normal cookie location with IE 11 on Windows 10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I know they are there because I can create a cookie and then see it from code. I just can't find it in the file system.

I am trying to test some functionality in my Excel Add-in and I want to be able to go to the file system and find and delete that exact cookie without deleting every cookie on my system.  However, I can't find it. If I delete all the cookies on my system and then create a cookie from app code (code behind on the server -- localhost) I still do not see the cookie.

I think I am going to go have a cookie now.

    Thank,

    Jim

  • Hi Edward,

I too was creating and reading the cookie from a server side code-behind page so I know they are there. Further validation is that when debugging the add-in in IE you CAN see the cookie created in the normal location (same with Firefox and Chrome). The Office client, Excel in this case, is storing the cookies some place else and I still haven't been able to find them.

I worked around the issue by debugging/testing in the browser where I could see the cookie, its expiration date, and delete the single cookie if I want to. For testing in the Office client you have to delete all the browser cache and cookies on your system and you can't see the actual cookie or expiration (to validate you set it correctly).

I guess we can close this but I can't 100% confirm that my cookie code works correctly in the Office client. I guess I'll just wait for a bug :)

    Thanks for the response.

How did you create a cookie and how did you check the cookie file path? If you create cookies in a simple web page, could you find this file?

In my option, Office add in is used to load a web application in Office, and operate data in Office, there is no much information about Cookies in Office add in.

  • Hi Jim,

Thanks for details information. I made a test both in IE and Office client, and I get the same result with you. I could find cookies when debugging with IE, but there is no cookies with Office client.

To be honesty, I am not sure wether there is specific operation when we use Office add ins in Office client.

I agree with your work around, if there is no bugs, I would suggest you mark your reply as answer to close this thread.

    Best Regards,
