Win7 boot from eMMC RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are trying to develop a bootload driver for eMMC card to load Win7 image. The legacy BIOS can point to eMMC card to pick the image location. Considering the Win7 driver architecture what are the technical challenges that may have to be overcome?

  • This question is more appropriately addressed in one of the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) forums found @ where they specifically deal with application development and related subject, such as driver architecture.

This forum is an End User peer-to-peer forum and doesn't delve into the technical details you need for your situation.

  • This is a very vague question. Before even considering the driver model/framework, there are a bunch of considerations for which you need to account:

    • Is this a system on chip platform?
    • What is the processor architecture (x86, x64, ARM)?
    • Is the eMMC device you're testing actually fixed or is it physically removable?
    • For the SD host controller enumerating the eMMC device, is it PCI enumerated?
    • Are the SD host controllers on this platform specifically for storage, or are there non-storage devices that need to be supported (SDIO)?

If you can provide additional context about your scenario/goals, that would be helpful in providing more actionable advice.
