Installing VS2005 after installing VS2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Wondering if there are any problems associated with installing and running Visual Studio 2005 after installing Visual Studio 2010 on the same hard drive?  I'm thinking that some older files might overwrite newer ones.  What's the best way to do it without having to un-install 2010 and then install 2005?  Thanks, CM007.

  • Hi CM007,

when you install Two Visual Studio Version in Same PC. you have to Select Visual Studio Version while Open the Existing Project file otherwise it will also open in other version.

  • Hi CM007,

    Thanks for your post!

I have had Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2010 all on the same machine and they are work fine.

  • Hi Cathy,

Thanks for your reply.  I've read that you can have several versions of VS on the same hard drive as long as they were installed in release order, and they should work fine.  For my question, I'm wondering about installing VS2010 first, then installing VS2005?  Installing in reverse order.

  • Hi CM007,

    Sorry for the delayed response!

Yes, you can install VS2005 after you install VS 2010 on the same machine. If you have Windows 7 installed on your machine, you also need to install VS2005 SP1.
