  • Question

  • We use cscript.exe to run vbscripts.  We are moving to a new server.  Is there a download for script.exe or does it come with the Microsoft Windows software?  If this is a separate download, where could I find it.  I have found a lot of info about cscript.exe, just no downloadable executable file.

  • CSscript.exe comes as part of the Windows installation, you will normally find it under %SystemRoot%\System32 (C:\Windows\System32\CScript.exe). If you are having issues finding or running this, check the follow registry keys:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\JSEFile\Shell\Open2\Command
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\JSFile\Shell\Open2\Command
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VBEFile\Shell\Open2\Command
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VBSFile\Shell\Open2\Command

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WSFFile\Shell\Open2\Command

  • If I copy the executable to another folder - would it run there?  Can you tell I'm quite the beginner!

  • It depends what you want to do with it, I would normally recommend leaving it where it is, however for arguments sake I have just copied it from my System32 folder to my desktop and it ran.

  • It will work, but programs that expect to find it where it should be won't work if it's not there.
