Hey SamPrincess,
Are you now able to use Windows Update?
Were you able to install the NVIDIA drivers successfully?Your CPU going to 100% may indicate that your video card/driver isn't functioning properly or that the program is not compatible with Windows Developer Preview yet.
Look forward to hearing back from you.

Firstly visit HP support website and then try install the version of driver that is compatible with Windows 7. Also, restart your PC and then for your update issue please follow steps on:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Windows-Update-error-80070002
You could also try run Windows Update Troubleshooter in control panel and in action center .

You could also try run update troubleshooter from Action Center in control panel. Since it is pre-Beta version of Windows 8, then these compatibility issues are expected , but for drivers that you have compatiblity issue, first follow steps in previous post to download latest version that run in Windows 7 and if that didn't work, please post back following information about non-compatible drivers:
1)Manufacturer
2)Driver name
3)Does is run in Windows 7?

Hey SamPrincess,
Try using the instructions below to rename your SoftwareDistribution folder to see if that stops you from repeatedly getting the same update.
- Restart your computer
- Enter the Start screen
- Click Windows Explorer
- Click Computer in the left column
- Open the partition that Windows Developer Preview is installed on
- Open Windows
- Right click the SoftwareDistribution folder
- Click Rename
- Change the name to SoftwareDistribution.old
Then restart your computer again. Then test to see if Windows Update is working properly again.
I know you have tried using compatibility set to Windows 7, but you may want to try using the compatibility troubleshooter to see if it can help the driver to install properly. The compatibility troubleshooter can be opened by:
- Enter the Start screen
- Move your mouse to the bottom left of the screen to expand the Charms section
- Select Search
- Type Compatibility
- Click Settings in the right column
- Click Run programs made for previous versions of Windows
Then follow the prompts and direct the troubleshooter to the installer for your computer's driver. You will likely want to choose the choice for This program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won't install or run now when it is given if the latest driver is only applicable to a different version of Windows.
Hope that helps.
