Confused about Windows Phone (8.1) camera features. RRS feed

  • Question

  • So I need in my WinPhone app to allow the user to take a picture. In the Windows Store version of the app this is done pretty simple with the CameraCaptureUI class as showed in this doc.

As stated in that doc, that is only for Windows apps, not Windows Phone. I guess I could use the MediaCapture class and show what's been sent in a div and or (?) video tag.

Is that the only way of taking pictures in Windows Phone? Am I missing something?

  • Correct. You'll use the MediaCapture class and surround it with your own UI. See the Media Capture Sample for an example

  • Cool, thank you Rob.

It's a pity tough, I'd expect something like the openFiledialog for WinPhone. I really hope it gets fixed so my users can use the camera app with all its features and stuff.

    Thanks again.

p.s: is there a feature requests (user voice?) site for Windows Phone?

  • Windows Dev Platform Feedback site is at http://wpdev.uservoice.com .

If you use the FileOpenPicker to open image file types then the camera will also be offered to the user as an option.
