Redirect URL for Sharepoint site RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to create a redirect for a SharePoint site without having to reinstall?
The server I used to install Sharepoint has a really complicated name and I just wanted users to have a easier url to remember!
    http://servername/Pages/default.aspx...
I was hoping to change the servername in the URL to the actual name we called the site, is this possible?<!-- google_ad_section_end --> <!-- / message -->

  • Hi,

You can extend the web application and can associate mappings between internal and external sites, all you have to do is extend the existing web application and give the host header to yourdomain.com which you can access internally if you want to access the site externally please follow the link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc261814.aspx

  • Thaks for that I had read a bit about assoicate mapping before but was wondering can do this between two internal URLs? It says a little bit into those notes that :

"Host-named site collections cannot use alternate access mappings. Host-named site collections are automatically considered to be in the Default zone, and the URL of the request must not be modified between the end user and the server."

I basically just want to change the URL of by orignial site collection to a simplier one so users will be able to memories it. Can I still use associate mapping?

  • I also have a similar issue.  i am trying to shorten home.ourcompany.net:1234/sites/portal/pages/default.aspx -> home.ourcompany.net/portal.  Is this possible to do through sharepoint?  Note:  i am using MOSS 2007 on server 2003 64.
