Word takes registry values from higher installed version RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I've Word 2010 installed on my PC and later I installed Word 2015 Preview.

Although there is different registry value for template folder name for both versions (i.e. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\General\Templates for Word 2010 and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\General\Templates for Word 2015) Word 2010 takes value from Word's 2015 registry branch.

I can see taken values in Trusted Location settings from UI.

I think this is wrong behavior.

  • Hi Boris

Your observation is, I fear, off-topic in a Developer forum. As Word 2015 is beta, the beta forum would be the better place to post. Barring that, the IT Pro forum in the TechNet section would be more on-topic than here. But...

For what it's worth this is expected behavior. Microsoft does not support side-by-side installation of numerous versions of Office. It does not prevent them, but it's not supported and, indeed, many Registry entries are shared by all installed versions. Sometimes, re-installing an older version will re-write some of the entries, but often not all of them.
