SharePoint Workflow Error RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

In our SharePoint 2010 environment, we are using custom multi stage approval workflow for the Pages library. We intermittently are seeing "Error Occurred" for the workflow. When we looked into the Workflow History list it shows the step where error occurred. One more observation is that whenever workflow errors out, it populates some value in duration column of Workflow history list. Value showing in duration column is like

    733,065,070 (0:0:1:13)
    4,130,842,504,215 (4:18:44:44)
    8,461,943,222,010 (9:19:3:14)

(in parenthesis I am showing Days:Hours:Minutes:Seconds from https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/35f454ff-d7aa-4827-850b-893b1d18a541/sharepoint-workflow-history-list-duration-column)

Question - Is the duration any indication of why the workflow errored out?

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

I suggest you provide more information about the error message for further research.

    Or check as below:

    1. Verify workflow service account has the full access to all content databases and config database.

    2. Try to restart workflow timer jobs.

    3. Try to restart SharePoint timer job.

    4. Try to insert actions that write to the history list at any point in your workflow, if the workflow is a Visual Studio custom workflow, you can use all the debugging functionality available with Visual Studio and the troubleshooting options for predefined workflows.

    5. If you have more WFEs, please try to run the "SharePoint Foundation Workflow Timer Service" on all WFEs.

    Best Regards
