Custom Activities MSI installation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I created workflow activities library. I want to create msi that will automatically deploy activities dll in specific folder and automatically register those activities in VS toolbox. I know how to create msi installation that will deploy dll, but I do not know how to automatically create separate tab in VS toolbox and to add custom activities from dll to that toolbox tab.

Can somenoe help me with this?

    Thanks,

The custom activities could be shown in toolbox in two ways : added manually or could be found in referenced assembly. To add it manually, right click on toolbox panel and select "Add Tab" and right click again to select "Choose items".

To define the toolbox item or designer related attributes of custom activities, please reference http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa480200.aspx

  • This blog post has some good pointers on installing components for Visual Studio and shows how to build a custom action in an MSI that will create a new tab and add all of your activities/components from your assembly to that tab.
