Converting SP 2010 Page Layout to Sharepoint 2013 Page Layout RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

    We migrated SP2010 publishing site to SP2013. Issue is, in SP2010 we have a custom page layout and in pages library we have some documents using this page layout and after migration the pagelayout did not upgrade, so do i need to create new page layout in 2013? If yes, then creating new ones with new page layout is fine but how do i change the layout of existing published page layout without checking out. Please guide me

    Thanks

    sam

  • Hi,

    you can update a the new pagelayout using poweshell but its not possible to update a pagelayout with out checkout the page.

     $spWeb = Get-SPWeb("http://currentsitename/webname")
     $spFile = $spWeb.GetFile("http://currentsitename/webname/Pages/Test-Page.aspx")
     $spFile.CheckOut("Online",$null)
     $spFile.Properties["PublishingPageLayout"] = "/_catalogs/masterpage/Block.aspx, Block"
     $spFile.Update()
     $spFile.CheckIn("Update page layout via PowerShell",[Microsoft.SharePoint.SPCheckinType]::MajorCheckIn)
     $spWeb.Dispose()

  • Hi Star222,

    According to your description, you want to change the current page layout.

    If you want to change the default page layout for creating the pages,

    Go to  [site settings] [look and feel] [Page layouts and site settings]  Under new page default setting, select the page layout you want.

    After creating the page, you can edit the page and change the page layout
    http://www.learningsharepoint.com/2013/03/07/change-layout-of-an-existing-page-in-sharepoint-2013/

    In addition, you can use SharePoint designer->page layout to change it.

    Best Regards,

    CY
