Excel 2016 active window RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have an excel VBA to open windows dialog to create a new excel file.

In Excel 2010, if user already opened the excel file (e.g. book1.xls ) and click windows dialog to create a new file ( book2.xls ) , this dialog will show in front of new file ( book2.xls )

In Excel 2016, if user already opened the excel file (e.g. book1.xls ) and click this dialog to create a new file ( book2.xls ) , this new file ( book2.xls ) will not be at the shown at the top . Windows  dialog will show in the front of old file ( book1.xls )

We've added " Application.WindowState = xlMinimized" after new file creation but it doesn't work  in Excel 2016.

Is it because of excel 2016 bug ? Can you please kindly advise why the windows dialog only shows in front of old file in Excel 2016 ?

  • Hello Wicky,

Do you have separate Excel instances shown in the list of processes from the Task Manager?

  • Hi,

Sorry that I don’t understand how you "create" a new file by using "windows dialog"

Do you refer to the FileDialog object? Could you please share the code used to create new files?

And What is your specific version of Office?

If you offer more information, we could try to reproduce your issue.

Besides, Application.WindowState works for the active windows (all workbooks are opened in one Excel instance). If you want to minimize the specific workbook, I suggest you Activate it firstly.
