Visual Studio Web Project Template RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey guys,
I have installed sql server 2005 on a box. This automatically installs the Business Intelligence Studio/ Visual Studio 2005.
What is the difference if I had installed just Visual Studio 2005?
Reason being I want to build a web project. I do not see a Web Project Template.
How would I go about adding that in?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks,
    jonathan

  • Hi Jonathan,

    Thank you for your post.

Business Intelligence Development Studio (BI) is a Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 with additional project types that are specific to SQL Server 2005 business intelligence. Business Intelligence Development Studio is the primary environment that you will use to develop business solutions that include Analysis Services, Integration Services, and Reporting Services projects. Each project type supplies templates for creating the objects required for business intelligence solutions, and provides a variety of designers, tools, and wizards to work with the objects.
You can add projects of the following types:

    • Analysis Services projects, for creating analytic objects.
    • Integration Services projects, for creating ETL packages.
    • Report Model projects, for creating report models.
    • Report Server projects, for creating reports.

BI is designed for SQL Server. To apply ASP.NET web application template, we should install Visual Studio 2005.
For Visual Studio 2005, if you need Visual Studio 2005 temporarily, you can try using Trial Edition. The Visual Studio Trial Edition can be downloaded, along with the necessary Service Packs & Patches, from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/embedded/bb961981.aspx.

Hope this helps! If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know.
