SSDT, SSDT-BI (Business Intelligence) RRS feed

  • Question

  • So I see these are in fact two different products (confusing). We have SQL 2012 where I am and I am upgrading to Visual Studio 2012. If I want to do SSIS & SSRS projects which do I need? One or both or neither? Frankly I don't know how anyone keeps this stuff straight. What is 'Data Dude' anyhow?

  • You want SSDT-BI for VS2012. This covers SSIS, SSRS and SSAS development. SSDT (without the BI part) covers regular database development. Don't worry about "Data Dude". That was essentially a codename for the SQL database tooling inside Visual Studio a long time ago and you don't need the database tooling, just SSDT-BI.
