Open Office SDK 2.0: safe for use in a server side environment RRS feed

  • Question

  • Couple of questions about the OO SDK.

    1. Does the sdk have an dependencies on MS Office ? For example, does MS Office suite need to be installed on the machine where you are using the SDK in your applcation?

    2. How thread safe is the library? Can it be used for a server-side application ?

    Thanks!

  • Hi John,

    in short from my experience:

    1. Nope.

    2. Yes, Unless you have document parts becoming bigger then approx. 9 mb then thread safety is not given.

  • Hi John Lobaugh,

    Thanks for your question.

    1. The Open XML SDK doesn't have an dependency on MS Office. You could manipulate the Open XML formatted files without MS Office being istalled.

    2. Thread safe is not guaranteed in Open XML SDK library. You need to deal with the multi-thread issues yourself.

    Thanks,

    Lu
