C# or C++ for graphics development for a Windows 8 app? RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I need to plot curves (complex) for my Windows 8 App. Which should I use to program with C++ or C# ?

  • What else do you need to do? C++, via DirectX, gives you much more powerful graphics processing, but C#/XAML supports Bezier curves, which is what I would expect you'd want to use. (Check the Windows.UI.Xaml.Media namespace for the low-level constructs)

I don't have a whole lot of experience with C++ (well, not in the last twenty years or so...), but I think you might find building the rest of your UI easier in C#/XAML, if it will handle your graphics requirements.

  • I want to plot slowly changing curved lines which I guess could be done by plotting zillions of x,y points. What would you suggest?

  • Beziers are specifically designed for smooth curves. As I said, you can use them in either platform.
