How do you use databases for a budgeting app?


  • For starters, basic functionality would be to add an item (with a matching cost/amount) per category per date. So for each day there are categories (say Food and Transportation). So for example, for November 1, 2013, I have lunch (cost: 80) and snacks (cost: 20) under Food, and then ride home (cost: 20) and ride to school (cost: 20) under Transportation.

    I can have one table with the fields date, category, item, and cost.

    So the question is, what tool do I use (for some reason SQLite won't show up in Visual Studio's Extensions and Updates)?
