Windows 2008 Server could not boot - msachi.sys missing RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our server was attached by virus/malware recently, and most of systems files affected, thus windows server 2008 could not boot with error message "Windows failed to start. File:\windows\system32\drivers\msahci.sys status: 0xc000000f windows failed to load beacuse critical system driver is missing or corrupt".

I am using installation media to do a repair, but OS is not detected in repair mode, does not show.

Win2008 server running on Dell PowerEdge 230, 6 Disks (450GB), on Raid 5, configured two virtual devices (first 3 disks virtual disk 1, and next 3 disks is virtual disk 2).

    Please help.

  • Hi,

If we have installation media, I consider that we could try to boot into WinRE and select CMD window option.

Get into BIOS and set the CD/DVD as the first boot item.

Then we could try to replace the msahci.sys with a new one to check.

If we still can't boot into desktop, I suggest that we could create a WinPE to make a boot start. For more features you can also try updating to the latest windows server 2019.
