Moving Test Cases from Project to Project within the same TFS 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am new TFS as our company has just recently decided to adopt it as an ALM/Build/Testing tool.  Our QA Team is looking to create multiple Test Cases in a temporary pilot Project that was created within TFS, but we are hesitant as we have read conflicting information regarding the ability to easily move existing Test Cases from one Project to another within the same TFS.  One blogger on the MSMVPS site has stated that you cannot move Test Cases from one Project to another except by copying them one at a time:

    http://msmvps.com/blogs/vstsblog/archive/2010/11/12/good-reasons-to-not-create-a-new-team-project.aspx

Yet on the MSDN forums, one person stated that you can use MS TFS Integration Tools to move Test Plans with Test Cases from Project to Project:

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/vsmantest/thread/191b6891-8678-4da0-a185-950d6f0e1f2b

So I need some clarification - if we go ahead and create multiple Test Cases in the temporary pilot Project in TFS, will we be able to easily move them to another permanent Project within the same TFS en mass?  Is there a process to do this? Or a tool available?

    Thanks,

    Kathleen

  • It is not possible to move the test cases, but you can use the integration platform to copy them. However you need to set this up and configure it.

So be sure that you spend some time setting up the platform. If the investment of the configuration of the Integration Platform is not what you want, then don't use multiple TP's.
