W8 native Blu-Ray support (Media Player)

    General discussion

  • Hello,

I would like to know if Windows 8 Media Center will natively support blu-ray playback as it is already the case with DVD.

For now the only option is to install third party software that are not recommended nor supported by MS and which a offer a poor to very poor integration which results in a bad user experience.

I understand that such a support would have impact on pricing due to licencing obligations but Blu-Ray is now a Standard as DVD is, there is no question about it, streaming is still not perfect, not available everywhere on the globe, requires high bandwith, does not provide for now equivalent quality ..etc.

    Regards,

    Thomas.

  • I also would like to see native blu-ray support, this is the feature I miss the most in Windows 7. Third party players aren't a good option, because they're slow and bloated, turn off Aero, can't always deliver good quality and install driver, which compromise system stability and can sometimes cause BSOD.
