Can pscript5.dll file be redistribute? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We are working on PostScript virtual printer. We have used standard PostScript driver which consists with the following files:

    ps5ui.dll
    pscript.hlp
    pscript.ntf
    pscript5.dll

Can we freely redistribute those files? Because we noticed that some system doesn't have this driver?

Answers

  • the only files you may redistribute are explicitly listed in the redistributables file that comes with the SDK, so no, you can't.

  • redistribution is not the right path. I would imagine these files show up as a part of a printer device installation and are installed from the underlying windows media. It looks like each of  these files are installed by ntprint.inf as part of the core printer package and installed by the section "{D20EA372-DD35-4950-9ED8-A6335AFE79F1}". You need to write package aware print driver package, please read https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/drivers/print/package-aware-print-drivers-that-share-files?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396 and the surrounding docs

  • Thanks for your response. We can't freely redistribute those files so... what we have to do to redistribute those files? Should we ask Microsoft for redistribution rights?
