Office Containers and UPDs - Folder Inclusion? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We're working on our first fslogix deployment on an existing RDS collection that uses UPDs (inclusion mode). We're using settings to store the OST, customizations, search, and license data in the container.

Unfortunately, we've been completely unsuccessful in getting it to work when the UPD is set to include the folders fslogix is set to take over.

A 3rd party we've engaged has had success with the same setup - they have it working in both include mode and exclude mode.

For office containers to work in our environment, we've had to remove Appdata\Local and Roaming user profile data from inclusion in the UPD. Not ideal.

When we include these, any operation that hits the symbolic link fails.

We haven't been able to find any difference between our 3rd party's working environments and ours.

RDS collection is Server 2016. Same results no matter where we store the containers.

    What are we missing?

  • We were able to get this working with version 2.8.6862.41985 of fslogix.

All of my previous scenarios were working with 2.9.7x.

  • Hi,

so you mean it is working with 2.9.7.x or not?
I am currently setting up the containers for outlook as addition to my UPDs and also run into issues.

  • Can you show me your include or exclude setup for the UPD?

Along with your ODFC registry keys for the Office container?  I've tried everything to get our 2.9.7 to work with UPD but I can't even load Outlook.

Here is an article describing the process: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/46558a79-a3e1-46d3-aa58-7810ff68d685/blog-using-fslogix-office-365-container-with-microsoft-upd?forum=FSLogix  if this does not help, or you still have issues then we should collect some logs from you through support, and figure out what you are running into exactly.  I'd be happy to take a look at the logs and help you get this working if you can share them with me through support.

I am looking into why the images are not loading on that link.

Just out of curiosity what is the reason that you would like to continue with UPDs rather than go to FSLogix profiles?  We are the same team now inside of Microsoft so just looking into, and trying to understand what perceived gains there are to the combination, or what the hurdles you are facing would be to adopting FSLogix profiles, and what we could do to help make that easier.  We would like to make sure that we are covering all of the needs of users while planning roadmaps for the futures of the 2 products.
