Local reports link to url not working RRS feed

  • Mark,

To avoid common type issue of string concation in SSRS, you can use "&" instead of "+". The operator "&" is a traditional operator for VB language and CLR will handle most data types converstions to string automatically when you use this operator.

You can also use String.Format function which may give you better experience for concating objects. For example:

    =String.Format("http://www.google.com?id={0}",Fields!EmployeeKey.Value)

  • I think I figured this one out.  Apparently passing in a numeric field does not get implicitly converted to a string - and the expression does not throw an error.  If you reference a non-string field in the link to url, it needs to be CStr'd

Thanks microsoft for not documenting this little gem.  Also, thanks for taking out a LOT of functionality (e.g. query parameters) in LocalReport mode.  This turned a 2 hour project into a 16 hour project because of all the research required.
