  • Question

  • Hi All,

I am using Windows SDK v6.1 with Visual Studio 2008 in windows Vista OS. I am unable to play WAVE file using MFPlayer Sample which has given in windows media foundation samples. I can play .wma file using this sample.

    My Questions are..

    1. How can I play diffrent formats of wave files using media foundation or MFPlayer?
    2. How can I get the file formats supported by Media Foundation SDK?
    3. In future If I want to play files other than WAVE file?

    Please help me regarding this.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Lakshman.

  • In Windows Vista, Media Foundation supports WMA, WMV, and MP3 files.

In Windows 7, support is being added for WAV files (among others).

Third parties can write Media Foundation plug-ins for other file formats. Also, whether Media Foundation can play a given file depends not only on the file format but also the codecs used to encode the media.

In general, the only way to know whether a particular file will play is to try it.
