How to get win8 rotation lock notification, screen orientation change notification RRS feed

  • Question

  • The question belongs to driver development, so I cannot use a metro app to detect the notification. Any API or registry for UMDF or win32 service to detect the notification when pressing rotation lock key or changing screen orientation?

For screen orientation, any standard IOCTLs in graphics driver?

For rotation lock, any interface that I can hook into HIDClass? It looks kbdfilter is filter on keyboard class. Not sure about win8 rotation lock key.

    Thanks!

  • what is your scenario? what is the bigger problem you are trying to solve. typically drivers outside of dispaly don't care about these settings at all.

  • Every mobile broadband (MB) enabled tablet must gain FCC certification in order to be marketed in the United States. To pass SAR(specific absortion rate), Microsoft recommends UMDF driver to detect environment change and control output radiance.

The SAR testing is quite complicated for different scenario. We can detect environment change like human closure, mechanical rotation. Now we need to get rotation lock, screen orientation change, screen on/off notification and so on.

  • Any idea?

If there's no driver interface, we can accept win32 API for background service, but not metro API for UI related app.
