    Hi All,

I was trying to use the component id for Outlook 2013 for 64 bit as per here,

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vsto/thread/1fd8690a-812c-49f9-a77e-e19f24de7c4e

but the 64 bit and 32 bit Outlook 2013 seem's to have the same component id (that of 32 bit). I am using Office 2013 trial.

So I want to find the component id of the msi which I used to install. As per this thread we can use MS SPY for finding the ID.

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/is/vssetup/thread/ed55865a-eeac-4c00-a513-78c4a1354d73

But the links mentioned in the answer is down.

So anyone who knows how to use the MSI SPY for identifying the component id from the msi, please help.

Also anyone faced the issue of same component id can also let me know an yworkarounds for the same.

    Thanks

    Jorge

  • Hi Ken,

I have seen the same info in http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vsto/thread/1fd8690a-812c-49f9-a77e-e19f24de7c4e.

I am wondering whether the Office 2013 Component ID [64 bit] for OUTLOOK is {7824A03F-28CC-4371-BC54-93D15EFC1E7F} or not?

I am using this component id to detect Office 2013 64 bit Trial installation and if fails. But if I use the ID {F9F828D5-9F0B-46F9-9E3E-9C59F3C5E136} (of Outlook 32 bit) it passes.

I just wanted to know whether this info is correct or there is some issue with my 64 bit Outlook 2013 trial installation package?

    Thanks

    Jorge

  • Those should be the correct componentID's for the 32 and 64 bit versions of the Office 2013 applications.

They would not be correct if you are looking for the componentID for the Outlook 2013 PIA.

There is only 1 PIA for Outlook, the same one is used for both 32 and 64 bit versions of Office. The would apply to any of the other Office apps, 1 PIA is used for both levels of bitness. That is not the case for the actual Office applications.

What would I do to check for Outlook 2013 bitness would be to check this registry value:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Bitness. It should be either "x86" or "x64". The same REG_SZ value but with a registry path of HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Bitness would be used for Outlook 2010.

My own preference for addins for Office 2010 and 2013 is to use Framework 4 or higher and to embed the PIA's in the assembly. Then I never have to worry about whether the PIA's are installed or not, or concern myself with deploying the PIA's.

  • I am pretty sure that I am having Office 2013,Outlook x64 (checked in registry and in Outlook help)installed on this machine and I am not searching for PIA of Outlook 2013 which is {C8A65ABE-3270-4FD7-B854-50C8082C8F39}.

I am using component id {7824A03F-28CC-4371-BC54-93D15EFC1E7F} as per the above table and it's just not working.

I will continue to identify the problem.

    Thanks
