  • Hi Kindopey,

    Based on your information above,

    Exe (C:\08a4a01188af5ae228\Windows6.0-KB956250-v6001-x64.msu) failed with 0x1 - Incorrect function. .

According to the above error message, there mighte be some error with Windows Installer service.

Please check that the Windows Installer service is set to manual but not disable via the following steps:

    1. ClickStart menu, click Run, type services.msc in the Open text box, and then click OK.

    2. In theServices (Local) list, right-click Windows Installer, and then clickProperties.

    3. If the Startup type drop-down list is set to a value of Disable, select theManual option from the Startup type drop-down list, and then clickOK.

    4. Click theFile menu, and then click Exit.

You can also download the Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable from the link below:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=5A58B56F-60B6-4412-95B9-54D056D6F9F4

    From above link :

For Windows Vista x64, please install the Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x64.msu.

You can refer to the articles below to know more about fixing some issues related with the service:

Then please try extracting the .NET Framework 4 installer package to you hard drive, and run the update Windows6.0-KB956250-v6001-x64.msu directly before the setup.
You can use some third party tool such as WinRAR or use /x command line to extract the installer and look for the update file Windows6.0-KB956250-v6001-x64.msu.

Now Install the .NET Framework 4.0 using standalone installer only as administrator using steps outlined in above post of mine in which you were unsuccesful.

From your error it seems you have been using Download and Install online .NET framework 4.0 installer, please dont do that, Use the standalone one it will surely help you,

I am trying my level best to help you, feel free to revert back for your problems,

  • It appears you tried the web installer.

Please try the standalone installer as follows:

Clean up from the failed install with this tool:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx

    Download the standalone installer:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=0a391abd-25c1-4fc0-919f-b21f31ab88b7&displaylang=en

Clean out your %temp% directory and disable your AV software.

Run the .NET Framework 4.0 standalone installer "as administrator".

  • Thanks for replying.

I followed the steps you guys laid out for me.  Use the cleanup tool, clear out temp folder, disable security, and run standalone installer as administrator.  I am still however encountering an error.  Is there any other info that I should provide?
