GAC and virtual machines RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our production server uses virtual machines to host different .NET applications.

Currently we don’t use the GAC and each .NET application deployed had its own private copy of every referenced DLL.

We’re thinking of using the GAC to tighten up version of our class libraries, so I’m wondering does each virtual machine have its own copy of the GAC? – or is there one GAC used by every virtual machine?

    Thanks.

Answers

  • Each Windows box (Virtual machine is also designed as an independent box) has its own GAC, where assemblies being shared in the scope of the current box.

    Thanks.
